A bicycle courier who pedals the streets of downtown Minneapolis didn’t know where to turn when it came to the erratic driving of taxis on Nicollet Mall. He said he’s seen taxis clog up traffic by turning without signaling and stopping abruptly to drop off or pick up fares. Here’s what he wrote to Whistleblower:
“I tried calling the police. They told me to call the cab company,” he said. That didn’t get him anywhere. “Who do I call to get an immediate response to a bad cabdriver?”
Minneapolis’ “Taxi Riders’ Bill of Rights” includes the right to a “safe and courteous driver who obeys all traffic laws.” The city invites people with complaints to call 311 or fill out this online comment card.
A 2006 city study found 24 complaints about bad driving by taxis in an 11-month period.
Has anyone ever listened to your complaints about a bad taxi driver?
