Here is some good news and bad news for commuters in the southwest metro.

The good news is that County Road 61 between Bluff Creek Drive and Great Plains Blvd. allowing motorists to go from Chanhassen to Chaska will open at 7 p.m. Wednesday, the Minnesota Department of Transportation says. The connection has been closed since May to allow crews to build a new bridge across the floodplain north of the Minnesota River channel to raise the roadway out of the 100-year flood elevation.

The $54 million project also includes rebuilding the "Y" intersection at County Roads 101 and 61, which also known as Flying Cloud Drive.

Now for the bad news. The County Road 101 bridge linking Shakopee with Chanhassen will be closed form 6 p.m. Friday until 9 a.m. Saturday as crews pour the new causeway bridge. It's a long detour, Hwy. 169 to Hwy 41 and on County Hwy. 61. Thankfully it is a short closure.

Going forward, motorists can expect alternating lane closures on County Road 101 between Shakopee and Flying Cloud Drive through Nov. 24. The lane closures will be Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
