It's a distinctive property with superb views that's convenient to light rail. Yes, there are challenges with the abandoned grain elevator that was forfeited after its previous owner got behind on property tax bills, as my colleague Jennifer Bjorhus reported in July. But Hennepin County thinks it might find a buyer at its auction next week. The documents posted by the county include an "Observation Report" with such alarming details as this: "The condition of the site and buildings is such that it includes, but is not limited to, the following hazards: trip, fall, openings in floor, falling object, wet surface, uneven walking surface, atmosphere (oxygen deficient, contains poisonous gases or has harmful airborne particulates/dust), environmental, confined spaces, and limited or no lighting."

Minimum bid, according to the legal notice: $23,000, which is the appraised value ($10,479) plus assessments certified before the property (3333 E. 41st St.) was forfeited for delinquent taxes. The auction begins at 9 a.m., Jan. 6, in the Hennepin County Government Center.
