Getting between Minneapolis and St. Paul during the midday hours could be a bit challenging as a bridge inspection project on I-94 will bring intermittent lane closures. Meanwhile a noise wall project continues on eastbound I-94 in Minneapolis and a paving project will have northbound I-35W reduced to a single lane in northeast Minneapolis.

Here are the specifics:

Workers from the Minnesota Department of Transportation will be inspecting bridges over I-94 between Dale Street and Hwy. 280 this week during the midday hours.

The agency warns that motorists could experience minor delays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday through Friday as lanes and shoulders will be closed intermittently. The closures will affect traffic in both directions, the agency said.

Inspectors will be taking a preliminary look at the bridges to prepare construction plans for work scheduled during the 2016 construction season.

In addition, noise wall work will have the right lane of eastbound 94 closed between Huron Blvd. and Hwy. 280 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On northbound I-35W, expect delays as the freeway will be reduced to a single lane from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from University Avenue and the Johnson Street exit. There also will be periodic closures of the University Avenue/4th Street entrance and Hennepin Avenue exit ramps.

Crews will be restriping northbound 35W and completing work associated with the new ramp from 4th Street to northbound 35W. The work along the stretch also included a new auxiliary lane from University Avenue to the Johnson Street exit, reconfiguring the Johnson Street exit to serve Johnson Street, New Brighton Boulevard and Stinson Boulevard, and putting up a noise wall on the west side of I-35W between Broadway Street Northeast and Johnson Street.

Over in St. Paul, here's a heads up for Hwy. 52 drivers. The ramp from northbound Hwy. 52 to westbound I-94 will be closed tonight from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. For southbound drivers, take note that the right lane between 94 and Plato Blvd. will be shut down from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Expect on and off closures of ramps from Hwy. 100 to Hwy. 55 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for road maintenance.
