5:50 a.m. update: Treacherous on Hwy. 5 just west of metro

Numerous cars are in the ditch at Hwy. 5 and Rome Avenue, and reports indicate that a squad car has been hit. Authorities are calling for sand/salt in the area.

Use extreme caution if you travels take you on Hwy. 5 through Norwood Young America. That's just west of Waconia and the western suburbs.

Numerous cars are in the ditch at Hwy. 5 and Rome Avenue, and reports indicate that a squad car has been hit. Authorities are calling for sand/salt in the area.

Tim Harlow covers traffic and transportation issues in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, and likes to get out of the office, even during rush hour. He also covers the suburbs in northern Hennepin and all of Anoka counties, plus breaking news and weather.
