Metro Transit tells the Drive that heavy freight traffic is causing havoc on the Northstar line this morning. The third inbound run is delayed 20 minutes at the Ramsey Station.

That train is now rolling and approaching the Fridley Station.

According to spokesman Drew Kerr, a freight train was disabled on the tracks between the Anoka and Coon Rapids station forcing single tracking in the area.

That delayed the reverse commute from Minneapolis to Big Lake. The trains had to share a track, and that put the fourth inbound trip about 5 minutes behind schedule.

The reverse train is used for the fifth and final inbound run. Kerr said that trip is behind by 15 minutes, but he expects the fifth trip from Big Lake to Minneapolis to depart on time.
