Metro Transit has joined SouthWest Transit in providing express bus service from the southern suburbs to Target's north campus in Brooklyn Park.

Starting Monday, Metro Transit will run new Route 565 from the Knox Avenue Park and Ride in Richfield to the campus, which is off Hwy. 610. Three trips will operate in the morning and three will run in the afternoon. Trips are projected to take 35 to 45 minutes in the morning and up to 55 minutes in the afternoon.

Non-stop morning trips will use bus-only lanes on I-494 and Hwy. 169. Afternoon trips will use Hwy. 169, Crosstown and I-35W. The fare will be $3 each way.

Metro Transit will continue to operate Route 765 with direct service from downtown Minneapolis.

A change for Route 724 also will take effect Monday. Both northbound and southbound buses will run on Hampshire Avenue. New bus stops will be located on Hampshire to serve employees at Liberty Carton, transit officials said.

Last Monday, SouthWest Transit began running three morning trips from stations in Chanhassen, Chaska and Eden Prairie to Target's north campus. The agency also operates three afternoon trips from Brooklyn Park back to the southwestern suburbs.

Both agencies said the new service was started in response to a survey of Target employees who indicated they wanted the bus service.
