With temperatures at 24-below zero, 141 racers started off in International Falls on Monday morning for what's arguably the state's coldest, most grueling race -- the Arrowhead 135. Most participants use specially equipped snow bikes with extra-fat tires to zoom down snowmobile trails until they reach Tower 135 miles from the start. Some racers ski or run, but it's become mostly a bike race and wolves are sometimes seen as riders pedals through the night.

You can keep up with the action at the race's website. The first racers had crossed Hwy. 53 and are on their way to the first checkpoint.
