Megabus, the popular low-cost city-to-city express bus company, will relocate its downtown Minneapolis bus stop to a parking garage near Target Field effective Nov. 1, company officials said Thursday.

The new arrival/departure location will be in Ramp C at 318 3rd Avenue N., which is located between Washington Avenue and Target Field. Megabus currently stops at 3rd Street and Chicago Av. S. near the Metrodome.

Megabus had been looking for a new location for several months after business owners in the surrounding area complained that riders were taking refuge during cold winter days, defecated and urinated behind buildings, and sometimes left their luggage behind.

Megabus does not provide riders with indoor facilities, which allows it to offer low fares, sometimes as cheap as $1. The company had been searching for a new place since July when the City of Minneapolis asked it to stop curbside pickups.

Mike Alvich, the bus company's Vice President of Marketing & Public Relations, said the new stop located under the parking structure will include a waiting room and will give customers a more convenient pre-boarding area as well as easy access to Metro Transit buses and trains.

"We are pleased to offer a more convenient location in Minneapolis," he said. "We look forward to continuing our partnership with the City to provide daily, affordable, express service with free Wi-Fi and power outlets to all our customers."

From Minneapolis, customers can travel express to Chicago, Madison (two locations) and Milwaukee, Wis.

In May, Megabus added new service in St. Paul, with daily departures/arrivals located at the Midway Shopping Center parking lot at Pascal St. N and St. Anthony Ave. No changes will be made there, Alvich said.
