Voters in the Third Ward received a mailer this week (right) alerting them to a fundraiser for Diane Hofstede featuring Gov. Mark Dayton.

But there's just one problem: The governor won't be attending.

Due to hip surgery on Wednesday, Dayton is refraining from all public appearances later this week while he recovers. His campaign manager said Tuesday that he won't be able to make it to the Hofstede fundraiser.

The Dayton appearance was a big get for Hofstede, considering the governor has not weighed in on any other Minneapolis races weighed in on only one other Minneapolis race -- he endorsed Abdi Warsame in Ward 6.

"It's really unfortunate," Hofstede said. "Except it is a good thing that the governor is taking care of himself. So that's our primary concern is that he is addressing his own personal needs."

When asked if she would be doing another event with the governor, Hofstede said, "Sure. Absolutely."

The fundraiser will go forward as planned with other boldface names who have signed on as co-hosts, including Walter Mondale and state Rep. Phyllis Kahn.
