The Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired bridge which carries traffic on 3rd Avenue S. over Interstate 94 near the Minneapolis Convention Center officially becomes the Sharon Sayles Belton Bridge Tuesday night.

Appearances by dignataries along with a live performance by Larry Long, Robert Robinson, J.D. Steele and Tonia Hughes are among the festivities that will take place during a dedication at 7 p.m. on 3rd Avenue at 16th Street. A new metal sculpture honoring Sayles Belton's accomplishments also will be unveiled.

Sayles Belton was mayor when the iconic bridge was built in 2000 and held the position from 1994 to 2001. She was the first woman and first black resident to hold the post.

The dedication is part of scheduled renovation, which includes restoration of the colored sidewalk, maintenance of the bridge facade and railing, and upgrading the light fixtures to energy-efficient LED lights.
