As Minnesotans begin shopping for health insurance, MNsure released some tips on how to avoid healthcare scams.
Two weeks ago, I wrote about about health scams that were already hitting the state, particularly seniors.
Here are the tips from MNsure:
- "Never give your private health or bank account information or credit card information or passwords to anyone who calls you or comes to your home uninvited."
- "MNsure will never call you and ask you for your social security number, credit card or bank account number, or your date of birth."
- "MNsure will never send its representatives to your home to ask for this information. If you are asked for this information by someone who calls or visits your home uninvited, keep a record of the person's name, who he or she works for, the telephone number, street address, mailing address, e-mail address, and website. Call the MNsure contact center at 1-855-366-7873 or send an email to mnsurecompliancehotline@mnsure.org with this information."
- "You should never be asked to pay for assistance getting health insurance coverage through MNsure. If you are asked to pay for assistance, keep a record of the person's name, who he or she works for, the telephone number, street address, mailing address, e-mail address, and website. Call the MNsure contact center at 1-855-366-7873 or send an email to mnsurecompliancehotline@mnsure.org with this information."
- "If you are suspicious of any information you are receiving about MNsure, stop the conversation and call the MNsure contact center at 1-855-366-7873."
