The city announced this week that recycling rates have jumped by more than 7 percent since single-sort bins were introduced last year.

But looking at just July, which is when the last of the bins were delivered to residents, the city says collections were up 57.75 percent over last year.

That's about 894 tons of additional waste that was recycled.

The city's goal is to double their initial rate of 16.4 percent by 2015, which would be a rate of about 32.8 percent. The overall rate is now about 24.4 percent.
