Prepping for its first major test of ranked choice voting, Minneapolis has launched a new website to raise awareness about the 2013 city elections.

The site, vote.minneapolismn.gov, covers everything from the ranked choice voting process to voter registration and filing deadlines. Residents can use it to apply to be election judges or, after August 13, view a sample ballot with all the candidates running for office.

While many candidates have already announced they are running for mayor and City Council, the official filing period does not begin until July 30. The filing window closes on August 13.

Education will be a key component of this year's election. Ranked choice voting ballots are slightly more complicated, since they require voters to list their second and third preferences.

The city used ranked choice voting in 2009, but this year's open mayoral seat is expected to draw more voters to the polls.
