It sounds as if the weekend might be a bit soggy, but that's not likely to put a damper on festivities at Minneapolis' Art-a-Whirl, Stillwater's Rivertown Art Fair or the Judson Street Fest.

But it could present problems for the Minnesota Twins (www.twinsbaseball.com), who host the Boston Red Sox Friday through Sunday at Target Field. And for runners participating in races at Lake Calhoun, parades in Golden Valley and, of course, for those working on the roads.

Judson Street Fest

The musical celebration put on by Judson Memorial Baptist Church (www.judsonchurch.org) takes place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at 41st Street and Harriet Avenue S. With bounce houses, arts, and food, the fest will draw a crowd. Look for street closures, tight parking and lots of pedestrians in the area.

Art-a-Whirl

Spread over nearly 20 square miles of northeast Minneapolis, Art-A-Whirl is considered the largest open-studio tour in the country. This event features more than 500 artists in over 70 locations and continues to grow each year. Look for pedestrians, bicyclists and lots of vehicles in the area bounded roughly by Broadway St. NE., Marshall Street NE., 22nd Avenue NE. and Central Avenue NE. Metro Transit (www.metrotransit.org) will provide free rides to the event.

Rivertown Art Fair

Vehicle access to Stillwater's Rivertown Art Fair (www.stillwaterrivertownartfestival.com) will be restricted, and downtown is likely to be extra crowded on streets around Lowell Park and heading into and out of Stillwater.

Golden Valley Days

In Golden Valley, the city's annual celebration(www.gvcfoundation.org/gv-days-2013) includes a parade, which will run along Western Avenue from Ridgeway Road to Brookview Pkwy., then north on Brookview to Winnetka Avenue. Things begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, so look for those roads to be shut down most of the morning. Winnetka Avenue from Hwy. 55 to Western Avenue also will be closed.

Roseville Book It 5K

The Book It! 5k Run and Walk will set off from the Roseville Public Library (www.rclreads.org) at 9 a.m. Saturday. Look for lane restrictions on Hamline Avenue between County Road B2 and County Road B. The race also will travel along County Road B2 between Hamline Avenue and Oxford Street. The course will cross Lexington Avenue at Brooks Street (across from Central Park) so expect police to stop traffic as runners pass by.

Races and walks on Minneapolis Parkways

Look for road closures this weekend:

Autism 5K, 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m Saturday affecting Lake Calhoun Parkway around Lake Calhoun.
Be the One Run, 7 a.m.to 11:30 a.m. Saturday affecting Lake Harriet Parkway around Lake Harriet.
Minnesota Aids Walk, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday. A segment of West River Parkway from Godfrey Parkway to Lake Street; and a segment of Godfrey Parkway from 44th Avenue to West River Parkway will be temporarily closed during the event.

Of course getting to all this fun will take some work. Here is what is under construction this weekend:

On Friady starting at 9 a.m., southbound Hwy. 169 between 77th Avenue and 101st Avenue in Brooklyn Park will be reduced to a single lane. All lanes will re-open at 5 a.m. Monday, May 20 in time for you to head back to work

Bass Lake Road bridge construction

Motorists traveling both directions of Hwy. 100 in Brooklyn Center will encounter a delay as a full closure takes place at Bass Lake Road. The closure begins at 6 a.m. Saturday and runs until 5 a.m. Monday. The full closure is needed as crews reconstruct the Bass Lake Road Bridge that spans the freeway. Motorists will bypass the closed segment by utilizing the Bass Lake Road ramps during the freeway closure.

Also in the east metro, work moves ahead on the rebuilding of the Hwy. 36 and Hilton Trail project. As a result, traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction on most nights through mid-June. The single lane configuration will run from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily between DeMontreville Trail and I-694 in Mahtomedi and Lake Elmo.

In Brooklyn Park, southbound Hwy. 169 will be reduced to a single lane from 101st Avenue to 77th Avenue from 9 a.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Monday.

Up in Taylors Falls, motorists will encounter delays on Hwy. 95, which is closed between County Road 9 and County Road 11. The will be the cas through June 13.

Other projects to keep in mind when getting around this weekend include:

• I--35E in Burnsville is closed from County Road 42 to the I-35E/W split for bridge work.

• Work continues on I-694 in both directions between I-35W and Hwy. 10 in Arden Hills.

• I-94 in both directions is reduced to a single lane in both directions from Hwy. 24 in Clearwater to County Road 75 in St. Cloud.

• Mississippi Street and L'Orient Street in St. Paul near the Cayuga Bridge and 35E are closed for utility work. Detours are posted and will last into next week, MnDOT officials say.

• Bridges over I-35W in Bloomington are under construction. You will find lane and complete closures at 86th Street and 82nd Street.

• At 10 p.m.Friday, both directions of I-494 will be reduced to a single lane between Hwy 100 and Xerxes Avenue. All lanes will re-open by 8 a.m. Saturday.

Gateway Trail opens early

Good news for bicyclists. The Gateway Trial tunnel that passes under Hwy. 36 in Pine Springs and Lake Elmo is back open. The tunnel was supposed to have closed through Monday, but reopened Friday after crews finished drainage work earlier than expected.
