Keeping tabs on Thursday's morning commute

Posted by: Tim Harlow Updated: March 14, 2013 - 5:19 AM

Good morning commuters.

After a sunny Wednesday, winter has returned to the Twin Cities. A fine coating of snow is falling and making highways and freeways wet and slick.

We have had a couple early morning spinouts so far, including one on northbound Hwy. 169 at Hwy. 610. A tow truck is pulling a motorist out of the ditch.

There also is a report of a spinout on eastbound I-94 at Manning Avenue.

The good news is that this morning's snow won't stay around long. It should stop falling by 9 a.m. and will likely melt as the mercury touches 40 degrees today. But more snow is on the way according to meteorologist Paul Douglas. A mix of snow and rain is in the forecast for Friday.

I'll be watching the roads and the rail this morning and letting you know where you will find problems and delays. If you see any congestion or issues, send me a tweet @stribdrive or an e-mail at drive@startribune.com.
