Don't expect Mayor R.T. Rybak to be leading the Democratic National Committee anytime soon, despite some Beltway rumors to that effect last month.

President Obama yesterday asked Debbie Wasserman Schultz to stay on as the party's chairwoman. That effectively rules out Rybak's chances at the position, assuming Obama's nomination is ratified by the party in January.

Obama could still offer Rybak a spot in his administration, though the mayor said several weeks ago that "If I was going to go to Washington I would have gone four years ago."

Rybak is mulling whether to seek a fourth term in office, and at least four local politicos are jockeying to replace him if he bows out. He said he would make a decision before Jan 1.
