The body of an adult male was found in an alley in south Minneapolis early Wednesday morning, the apparent victim of a shooting, the Minneapolis police said.

Minneapolis Police Sgt. William Palmer said that officers from the department's third precinct went to the scene just before 3 a.m. after the report of the sound of shots being fired in the 2100 block of 10th Ave. South.

"The victim had suffered apparent gunshot wounds," Palmer said in a news release, issued at 9:25 a.m. on Wednesday.

Palmer wrote that the department's homicide unit was working on the case and that no one was in custody. He asked anyone with information on the incident to call the department's TIPS Line at 612-692-TIPS (8477). He said that the identity of the victim will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office.
