A meeting to show off some potential design changes for Franklin Avenue to help pedestrian and bike safety is coming up on Sept. 25

The session is intended to show the feasibility of adding bike lanes for the length of Franklin, along with recommendations for travel lane and parking lane restrictions, according to Transit for Livable Communities (TLC), which funded the study. There are no plans on the horizon from owner Hennepin County or the city to make changes to Franklin. The meeting will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m.at Hope Community, 611 E. Franklin Av. The presentation by lead contractor Toole Design Group will discuss potential tradeoffs for alternative designs for the roadway between Dupont and Minnehaha avenues. For example, TLC said that without bike lanes, many cyclists ride Franklin's sidewalks, creating conflict between bikes and walkers. The meeting will be the third in a community process leading to preliminary engineering that could be used eventually by the city. It is part of the federal pilot program for non-motorized transportation for the Twin Cities administered by TLC.
