Rick Kreyer

Rick Kreyer has taken over as the top human resources person for Minneapolis schools, after once holding a similar position in St. Paul.

Superintendent Bernadeia Johnson recently named Kreyer to be chief human resources officer, less than a year after he joined the school district and helped it negotiate labor contracts.  He's been the interim chief since May.

Kreyer worked his way up in St. Paul schools from labor relations analyst to executive director of human resources and labor relations between 1989 and 2004. He also worked for the Minnesota Hospital Association as vice president for labor relations and for workforce development before joining the district in November. He teaches in his field at Metropolitan State University.

Pat Pratt-Cook resigned from the top human resources job in May.  Human resources functions in recent years have been something of a frustration to some district teachers and parents who have expressed concern over what they see as hiring and transfer inefficiencies in the district, and to employees who suffered through payroll errors during the adoption of a new software system.
