Ice cream should be flowing in a building beside the Mississippi River in Minneapolis next summer if all goes according to plan for a new Izzy's Ice Cream factory.

The St. Paul ice cream company posted online last Friday that they had broke ground on the new factory, located near Gold Medal Park, which they hope to complete by summer 2013.

And a developer who threatened to kill a residential project if the factory moved forward appears to be pursuing the 169-unit project, Park Vista, anyway.

Developer Jim Stanton's company, Shamrock Development, said in a January memo to the city that selling land to Izzy's would make Park Vista "no longer a viable project." But earlier this month, Shamrock nonetheless applied for permits to begin work on their project.

Stanton did not immediately return a request for comment.

The Izzy's project also faced stiff opposition from residents of a nearby building, Bridgewater Lofts.
