Cherokee Park United Church plans to celebrate newly installed solar panels on its building this Sunday.

With the new large solar panel system, the church located on the West Side of St. Paul joins "only a handful of churches in Minnesota to install solar panels," according to the church’s web site.

Church leaders view the panels -- which meet over 100 percent of the church’s electricity needs -- as an expression of their faith and hope other churches are inspired to install similar environmentally friendly systems.

Elected officials and religious leaders are expected to attend the dedication, slated for 3:30 p.m. at the church at 371 West Baker Street.
