From an old light bulb factory they occupied on NE Broadway Street. to their new $41.7 million headquarters on W. Broadway Avenue, the first Minneapolis school administrators are on the move.

Appropriately enough, facilities employees are in the first wave that began the move into 1250 Broadway on Friday, along with IT workers. They're expected to be in place on Monday.  Superintendent Bernadeia Johnson and the district communicaitons staff follow the next weekend. Some 600 people will occupy the space from four current spaces.

The school board is expected to begin meeting in the new digs sometime this fall, district spokesman Stan Alleyne said..

The new building is the first scratch-built headquarters the district has ever had.  Like the old headquarters, the new one will be named after former Superintendent John B. Davis, the late schools chief who led the district into racial desgregation of schools.
