Minneapolis DFLers bestowed three endorsements for school board Saturday at Edison High School but deadlocked and adjourned without an endorsement for the highly competitive southwest seat. Educator Tracine Asberry led with 46.3 percent on the fifth and final ballot to 36.3 percent for labor-backed lawyer Alex Phung. Candidates needed 60 percent of delegates for endorsement All four candidates are considering a run in the Aug. 14 primary. Candidate Darrell Washington in the downtown-Isles district hit the endorsement mark on the third ballot. He led former teacher Josh Reimnitz, who mustered 34 percent. City employee Washington benefitted from the forced drop of teacher Sarah Miele, But Reimnitz said he'll run in the August primary regardless of the endorsement outcome. Earlier, Carla Bates was endorsed for a second term by acclamation, and delegates also backed unopposed Kim Ellison, the lone declared candidate for a North Side seat. Ellison was appointed in December.
