No criminal charges will be filed Friday against a 24-year-old Minneapolis man suspected in the shooting death of Jody Lynmarvin Patzner, Jr., 22, said a spokesman for the Hennepin County Attorney's office. A judge granted County Attorney Mike Freeman an extension on the case, and his office now has until Monday to charge the suspect.

The man in custody lives on the same block as Patzner, who was shot Monday evening as he biked from his house to a neighbor's place to deliver a lasagna dinner. A witness said three youth confronted Patzner and yelled that they wanted his bike. The witness heard two gunshots and then saw the assailants run off. Patzner fell onto the sidewalk and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect was arrested outside his house Wednesday evening.
