Minneapolis restaurant food-code violations

Minneapolis restaurants with the most food-code violations

The Minneapolis Department of Regulatory Services conducted 2,220 inspections in the second half of 2011 of more than 1,400 restaurants or other businesses that make food .

While the majority of inspections resulted in a clean bill of health, a few restaurants racked up dozens of violations. Some of the violations were considered critical, or more likely to cause food-borne illness.
On Sunday Whistleblower published the 10 restaurants that garnered the highest number of critical violations.
"White Tuna" on menu can be gut-wrenching
In the course of examining Minneapolis restaurant inspection reports it became clear that some sushi restaurants were mislabeling their fish. In particular, five restaurants called escolar by a different name, usually "white tuna."
Escolar consumption can cause diners to become ill with diarrhea, nausea, cramping and the like if eaten in too high a quantity. Anecdotally, a 6-ounce portion of escolar is not recommended, though scientific studies find consumption at any quantity can lead to symptoms in some people.
