1st Cup Cafe gets another chance to meet code

A Minneapolis restaurant that repeatedly failed health-code inspections was given another chance to improve after the City Council approved an agreement earlier this month between regulatory officials and the restaurant’s owner.
1st Cup Cafe at 2740 Minnehaha Ave. has been out of compliance with health code since its first routine inspection in July 2008.
The agreement stipulates that owner Samme Siste hire a consultant to supervise the operation. In addition, a certified food manager must be on site when food is present to make sure all employees comply with health code. The city imposed $5,140 in fines but stayed an additional $7,200 in penalties as long as Siste complies with the agreement.
Siste declined to comment on the action.
Six inspections by the city’s Department of Regulatory Services since November 2010 produced a total of 84 violations, 30 of which were considered critical or more likely to cause food-borne illness.
Violations noted in at least three inspections included: the person in charge not being knowledgeable; improper storage of raw meat; food or other debris on appliances and elsewhere; food at improper temperatures; food stored in open containers; and scoops submerged in food.
