The Minnesota National Guard is seeking volunteers willing to be "Yellow Ribbon employment coaches" for troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, said Lt. Col. Barb O'Reilly. The coaches will help soldiers compile résumés and sharpen interview skills, she said.
About a third of returning troops are unemployed, O'Reilly said.
Reasons vary: Some soldiers worked for businesses that failed while they were deployed. Others, after the high level of responsibility they held overseas, want more challenging jobs at home. Some had just graduated from high school or college when they deployed and hadn't entered the job market.
Businesses interested in supplying coaches can contact National Guard employee relations coordinator Megan Riffe at 651-282-4232 or e-mail her at email@example.com.
