An armed robber who held up a Brooklyn Center bank and tried in vain to flee the scene has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Corey J. Scott, 31, was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Minneapolis.
In his plea agreement, Scott admitted that on Jan. 6, he robbed a TCF Bank at 2950 County Rd. 10 of $1,700.
Scott passed a note to a teller that read, "100s, 50s got gun." In his plea agreement, Scott also admitted that he had shown the teller the handle of a gun in his pocket.
Immediately after the robbery, a Brooklyn Center police officer on his way to the scene saw a van leaving the area. The officer followed the vehicle, prompting the van to speed up.
Police pulled over the vehicle and arrested Scott. He had the money in a pants pocket and a loaded handgun on the floor next to the driver's seat. Scott, who has most recently lived in north Minneapolis, has a criminal history that includes weapons and drug offenses.
