More Minnesotans are eligible for H1N1 flu shots

Last update: November 24, 2009 - 12:01 AM

In a sign that vaccine shortages might be easing, the Minnesota Department of Health is expected to announce Tuesday that it is expanding the number of high-risk target groups eligible for H1N1 immunizations.

CLINICS TUESDAY: Flu-shot clinics scheduled for today at Fairvew Clinics reflect the broader groups. As of today, anyone aged 6 months through 24 years, both those who are healthy and those with underlying health conditions, are invited to come for vaccination at one of the clinics. People aged 25 though 64 are eligible for a shot if they have chronic medical conditions.

The other target groups are pregnant women and people who live with or care for children younger than 6 months.

The clinics, which are open to the public, are being held at Fairview Clinics in Minneapolis, Bloomington, Fridley, Eagan and Wyoming, Minn. Those who have insurance are asked to bring their cards, but those who don't will still be immunized.

CLINIC SITES AND HOURS: Minneapolis: 2 to 8 p.m. at Fairview Children's Clinic, 2535 University Av. SE.

Suburbs: 5 to 8 p.m. at Fairview Oxboro Clinic, 600 W. 98th St., Bloomington; Fairview Eagan Clinic, 1440 Duckwood Drive, Eagan; Fairview Fridley Clinic, 6341 University Av. NE., Fridley; Fairview Lakes Family Medicine Clinic, 5200 Fairview Blvd., Wyoming.

FOR MORE INFORMATION: Go to www.fairview.org/flu. Or contact your local public health agency for information about upcoming clinics.
