Police were called at 2:48 a.m. to 2700 Selkirk Dr. and found a man who appeared to be about 25 with a single gunshot wound
One man is dead and another is in jail after an early-morning shooting Saturday at a Burnsville apartment complex.
Police were called at 2:48 a.m. to 2700 Selkirk Drive and found a 25-year-old man with a single gunshot wound, Sgt. Jeff Witte said. Officers performed emergency first aid, but the man died. His identity has not been released.
Witte said two people were interviewed in connection with the shooting. One was released and the other was booked in the Dakota County jail for probable cause second-degree manslaughter, for "culpable negligence creating unreasonable risk," according to records.
Witte would not say whether the shooting was accidental or intentional.
"We need to review the reports and get evidence," he said. "This isn't clear-cut by any stretch of the imagination."
According to jail records, the 25-year-old male suspect was arrested at 3:10 a.m. and booked at 11:16 a.m. Saturday. He is being held without bail and will make his first court appearance Tuesday.
Witte said the county attorney's office will review the case on Monday for possible formal charges.
The victim's family declined to comment. The suspect's mother also declined to discuss what had happened because she had not spoken with her son.
