Charles and Camilla come calling on Canada

Last update: November 8, 2009 - 8:47 PM

Prince Charles is visiting Canada for the 15th time, but this is the first official visit for his wife, Camilla, the duchess of Cornwall. The royal couple arrived a week ago and will leave on Thursday.

Canada is Camilla's ancestral home, and last Thursday they were in Ontario for a guided tour of Dundurn Castle in Hamilton, home of her great-great-great-grandfather, Sir Allan Napier MacNab. The couple were greeted by cheering locals, some clutching flowers to give to Camilla.

Upon arriving last week, Charles said his top priority was discussing climate change solutions.

"We are at a defining moment for our civilization," he said, adding he was looking forward to "meeting some of the Canadians who are at the forefront of developing the crucial solutions on which humanity's future depends."
