St. Paul driver crashes after a 'medical event'

Last update: November 6, 2009 - 11:02 PM

A woman suffered a medical complication while driving in downtown St. Paul on Friday morning, crashing her car into a tree and a light pole, police said.

The motorist was taken to Regions Hospital, where her "prognosis is guarded," said police Sgt. Paul Schnell.

Authorities were withholding her name until relatives could be located.

The crash happened about 8:30 a.m. on northbound Sibley Street, just south of 4th Street, Schnell said.

A "medical episode" led her to lose control of the car, then "she struck a boulevard tree, rolled back and hit a light pole," he said.

The crash itself did not cause any injuries, he added.
