Last update: November 5, 2009 - 9:20 PM

Police on Thursday cautioned residents of Minneapolis' Loring Park neighborhood to be extra careful in the wake of a sexual assault last week in an apartment building in the area.

Police are seeking a suspect in the assault, which took place Friday in a building in the 1500 block of Spruce Place.

A woman was assaulted when she encountered the male suspect going through her laundry in the building's laundry room, police said. The woman fought with the man and he fled on foot.

DESCRIPTION: The suspect is described as a black man of medium complexion, 30 to 40 years old, approximately 6 feet tall with a slim build, unshaven and with a short Afro. He was wearing a red flannel shirt and beanie and was carrying a backpack.

CAN YOU HELP? Anyone with information is asked to call police at 612-673-2913.
