U names vice provost, dean of Graduate School

Last update: November 2, 2009 - 8:50 PM

The University of Minnesota has named a new vice provost and dean of graduate education.

Henning Schroeder is associate dean for research and graduate studies in the College of Pharmacy and was on a committee that assessed controversial plans to restructure the university's Graduate School.

Before coming to Minnesota, Schroeder was chair of the Department of Pharmacology at the Martin Luther University School of Pharmacy in Germany for 12 years.

His appointment is subject to approval by the Board of Regents, which could come at its meeting this month.

In a note announcing Schroeder as his pick, Provost Thomas Sullivan said that Schroeder "brings a fresh perspective to graduate education, which is critical and essential to help the university achieve its goal of becoming one of the top three public research universities in the world."

The former dean of the Graduate School, Gail Dubrow, resigned last spring.
