MnDOT to investigate whether concrete that struck motorist's car was from a bridge.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation continues to investigate whether a chunk of concrete that damaged a man's car as he drove under Interstate 494 fell from the bridge above.
Kyle Jones, 29, of Inver Grove Heights was southbound on I-35E passing beneath the bridge at 8 a.m. Friday when something struck his Ford Focus, shattering the windshield and caving in part of the roof. Jones, who was not injured, said he found small pieces of concrete inside his car.
MnDOT spokesman Kevin Walker said a crew will try to determine Monday whether the piece of concrete fell from the bridge, which is structurally sound and was not closed following the incident.
Walker said it's possible that the piece may have been from patchwork that had been applied to the bridge in the past, or that it could have fallen from a passing truck.
