A coalition of the state's agricultural commodity groups announced today that they are donating $115,000 worth of pork and dairy products to a group that provides food for poor people in Minnesota.
About 85,000 pounds of pork and about 36,000 pounds of cheese will be donated to Hunger Solutions Minnesota.
The donations are being paid for by the Minnesota Pork Board, the state's Milk Producers Association and the state's soybean council.
According to the hunger organization, the state's 300 food shelves distributed 47 million pounds of food last year, an increase of 89 percent since 200. Food shelf use also is up this year, it reported.
