Two women have been arrested in the shooting of a Brooklyn Center man who tried to break up a fight outside a Brooklyn Center apartment complex.
A 23-year-old man, who police identified as the boyfriend of one of the women involved in the Monday morning altercation, tried to stop the fight when the second woman pulled out a gun and fired, hitting him in the chest, said Cmdr. Mike Reynolds of the Brooklyn Center Police Department.
The victim was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, where he was in stable condition Tuesday evening, officials said.
Police were first called to a fight between the two women near Brooklyn Boulevard and 61st Avenue N. at around 10:30 a.m. The fight had ended by the time police arrived. One of the women fled to the apartment complex across the street, the other left with a female acquaintance, police said.
About 30 minutes later, the woman and her acquaintance, along with two men, arrived at the apartment complex. The women involved in the original fight began sparring again until shots were fired.
Police said they knew the incident was not random. As of Tuesday afternoon, two women, ages 19 and 22, await charges for allegedly being the shooter and accomplice. Their names will not be released pending formal charges, Reynolds said.
