Minn. nurses rally against state health care cuts

Last update: October 12, 2009 - 10:37 AM

Minnesota nurses are protesting Gov. Tim Pawlenty's move to eliminate subsidized health care for more than 30,000 low-income adults.

Members of the Minnesota Nurses Association and their supporters will march to the Republican governor's Capitol office on Monday to demand that he reverse the spending cut. The Minnesota Nurses Association is a union with 20,000 registered nurses as members.

Pawlenty used executive powers to eliminate funding for the General Assistance Medical Care program starting next March as part of a fix for a massive state deficit.

Union President Linda Slattengren says ending the GAMC program will devastate health care for the poorest and most vulnerable people.
