Minneapolis selling trees for $25

The sale is to help residents who lost trees in the August tornado.

For sale: 125 trees. Twenty-five bucks apiece. First come, first served for any Minneapolis resident. City officials have expanded a tree sale they initiated a couple of weeks ago to help residents who lost trees on their property during the Aug. 19 tornado. Five varieties of trees -- triumph elm, autumn splendor buckeye, Valley Forge elm, ironwood and blue beech -- are for sale and must be ordered by Friday. Residents who bought trees to replace ruined ones have already claimed 75 of the trees, leaving the remainder available to all city residents. Only one tree per household may be purchased. The trees can be ordered at www.treetrust.org/orderhere or by calling 651-644-5800. They must be picked up on Sept. 26 at the former Northrop Elementary School, 1611 E. 46th St.
