Video captures sexual attack by stranger in victim's apartment building near 'U'

Last update: August 28, 2009 - 9:08 AM

Minneapolis police are asking for help in finding a man seen on video sexually assaulting a woman in the hall of her apartment building near the University of Minnesota.

The 23-year-old woman told police that the man followed her early Saturday into the secure building on the 1700 block of SE. Elm Street. Video cameras in the building captured the assault, said Sgt. Jesse Garcia, a police spokesman.

The woman did not know the man and investigators have "no idea of who he is," Garcia said.

Police released photos from the video of the man, whom they described as white, 25 to 30 years old, 6 feet tall, with a light complexion and a light to average build. He was wearing a long-sleeved, cream-colored shirt with a design on the front, jeans and sandals.

If you have any information, call the police sex crimes unit at 612-290-3946.
