An apparently drunken motorist crossed his Humvee into the opposite lane and killed a young man driving his car home from work late Sunday, Stearns County authorities said Monday.
The head-on collision happened shortly after 10:30 p.m. Sunday on County Rd. 17, just east of Opole in northeastern Stearns County.
The Humvee's driver, Timothy Allen Rausch, 29, of Cushing, Minn., appeared to be intoxicated and was apprehended at the scene, Sheriff John Sanner said.
Also jailed was a 41-year-old man from Auburn, Ill., who was a passenger in the Humvee. He is accused of failing to cooperate with authorities after the crash, Sanner said.
The car's driver, a 19-year-old man from Holdingford, Minn., was heading west on his way home from his job at a grocery store in St. Cloud, when the eastbound Humvee crossed into his lane, said Chief Deputy Bruce Bechtold.
The victim's identity has yet to be released.
