Authorities charged a Circle Pines man on Thursday with murder and another man with aiding him in what police said was a drug-related shooting this week in a Blaine mobile home park.
Zachary Stephen Heineck, 19, was charged with second-degree murder in the slaying Tuesday of Ryan James Felt, 20, in the 3600 block of 91st Lane NE. in Blaine. Nicoles Ray Lindsey, 18, of Lexington, was charged with aiding an offender after the fact, a felony.
The charges stated that during what police said was a drug transaction involving several people, Felt, of Blaine, got into a fist-fight with another man. That man's companion, Heineck, pulled out a gun and fired a warning shot in the air. He then stepped closer and fired at Felt. Witnesses said Heineck shot Felt two or three times before the gun jammed. He then cleared the jam and shot Felt some more.
The group then split up and fled, with Lindsey accompanying Heineck.
Within hours police arrested the pair at Lindsey's house in nearby Lexington. Lindsey told police that he was with Heineck after the shooting and that Heineck had hidden the gun in Lindsey's car, which was covered with a tarp.
An autopsy revealed that Felt was shot in the back, armpit and lower abdomen. Police found five ammunition cartridge casings and two unfired cartridges at the scene, along with one deformed bullet on the pavement. The complaint said that between the time of the shooting and when Heineck was arrested, he called another man on his cell phone and said he had "put seven rounds in the guy."
