THE LATEST: Arson is suspected in the fire that destroyed the headquarters of the Bois Forte tribal government in northern Minnesota this week, and a reward is being offered in hopes of finding out who set the blaze.
The tribe is holding a healing ceremony today at the Nett Lake Powwow Grounds.
When firefighters arrived about 3 a.m. Monday, they found a burning vehicle. Once firefighters had that fire extinguished, they found another blaze outside of the unoccupied building. That fire eventually destroyed the building.
The state fire marshal investigator has determined the cause of each fire to be arson. Agencies investigating the case are the Bois Forte Police Department, the FBI, the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs and the State Fire Marshal Division.
REWARD: Up to $14,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the arsonist. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Nett Lake Police Department at 1-218-757-3237 or 1-866-638-0905, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
REBUILDING FUND: The tribe has established a fund to help replace the materials lost in the fire. Contributions can be sent to the First National Bank of Buhl, 121 State St., Buhl, MN 55713. Office supplies or furniture can be donated by calling Public Works Director Marty Connor at 1-218-757-0193 or 1-218-757-0196.
