Falling tree kills man in Faribault

Last update: July 11, 2009 - 12:20 AM

Part of a tree fell on a 29-year-old man in a rural area southwest of Faribault, Minn., trapping and killing him, authorities said Friday.

The man, whose identity has yet to be released, and a friend were placing a target for an archery event near a tree that had partly fallen shortly before 7:30 p.m. Thursday, when a portion of that tree broke loose and fell on the man, the Rice County Sheriff's Office said.

Rescue workers responded, but the man was declared dead, the Sheriff's Office said.
