When Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie hosts his counterparts from around the country in Minneapolis next month, he'll also be hosting a meeting of the nation's civic activists.
UP FOR DISCUSSION: Ritchie's office announced Tuesday that a National Civic Summit will be held at the Minneapolis Hilton on July 16 and 17. Hundreds of civic groups are being invited to the meeting, which organizers said is designed to address two questions:
"How can we increase civic imagination and capacity to solve today's challenges in ways that serve the public interest?
"How do we use technology to move from isolation and overload to effective collaboration and solutions?"
SPONSORS: The meeting, also sponsored by the Citizens League, is being supported by Target Corp. and General Mills.
WANT TO GO? The sessions, free and open to the public, will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The summit is being held in conjunction with the annual summer meeting of the National Association of Secretaries of State.
