The name of a man fatally stabbed in a confrontation in downtown Minneapolis late last week was released Friday by the Hennepin County medical examiner.

Shequill Terall Halbert, 24, of Minneapolis, died as the result of a sharp-force injury to the chest, the medical examiner said.

Halbert died Monday, the same day that second-degree attempted-murder charges were filed against Bruce R. Fry, 47, of Minneapolis, in Hennepin County District Court. Fry appeared in court Thursday on an upgraded charge of second-degree murder.

On July 13, a 911 call about a man who appeared dead brought police to a building in the 1100 block of 8th Street S., according to the criminal complaint.

Apartment surveillance video showed Halbert buzzing a number at the building's front door. Fry came to the door and had words with him through the locked glass door. Halbert then retreated and Fry pursued him outside , prompting the man to push Fry away.

Fry stabbed Halbert with a small knife, the complaint says. As Halbert stumbled to his feet, Fry swiped at him with the knife again before chasing him out of the camera's range. Less than a minute later, Fry ran out the back door of the building.

The victim's sister told police that she and Fry "had been romantically involved" and that he had been showing nude photos of her to people.
