Target Corp. and Marvin Windows and Doors were recognized for their veteran-assistance programs.
Two of Minnesota's corporate pillars -- Target Corp. and Marvin Windows and Doors --were honored Tuesday by Gov. Tim Pawlenty for their support of military service members and their families.
Pawlenty designated the firms as "Yellow Ribbon Corporations" during the Governor's Employment Summit in St. Paul.
The Yellow Ribbon designation stems from the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon program of the Minnesota National Guard that has been assisting veterans for more than three years.
THE PROGRAM offers 30-, 60- and 90-day reintegration sessions on marriage, parenting, employment, benefits, and, if needed, anger management and help coping with substance abuse. It has been so successful that Congress mandated that all states have a reintegration program for National Guard soldiers returning from deployments.
THE COMPANIES were singled out for programs designed to assist veterans, specifically Target's internal Military Service Network and Marvin's on-site degree programs.
In both cases, the companies have created formal partnerships with the armed forces.
