A motorist in a car died after crossing into the path of a large SUV and being struck at a southwest metro intersection, authorities said.

The collision in Carver County occurred about 4:15 p.m. Saturday at Hwy. 212 and County Road 43 in Dahlgren Township, roughly 4 miles west of Chaska, according to the State Patrol.

Killed was Irene D. Coran, 65, of Carver, the patrol said. The SUV's driver, Stephen P. Keaton, 53, of Richmond, Minn., suffered minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital. His two passengers also were slightly hurt and didn't need hospitalization, the patrol added.

Keaton, with a trailer in tow, was heading west on Hwy. 212 and had the right of way when Coran on southbound County Road 43 entered the intersection was hit by the SUV, the patrol said.

Emergency responders took Coran to Hennepin County Medical Center, and she was declared dead there, according to the patrol.
