Clues sought into how Brooklyn Park man severely hurt head

Last update: May 21, 2009 - 8:56 PM

Crystal police are asking for the public's help to unravel what happened to a Brooklyn Park man found unconscious with severe head injuries on a street last week.

Thomas Rehbine, 54, was found near Bass Lake Road and County Road 81 shortly after 5 a.m. on May 14, said Crystal Deputy Chief Stephanie Fealy.

Rehbine was taken to North Memorial Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition in a coma on Thursday, said spokesman Robert Prevost. Police have been unable to talk to him.

Doctors said his injuries on the front and rear of his head don't look like he was hit by a car, and police consider them suspicious, Fealy said. She added that it isn't known if Rehbine had been using alcohol or drugs.

He was last seen about four hours before police found him near his home and the intersection of Florida Avenue and Lombardy Lane. Rehbine is white, 5 feet 6 and 200 pounds. Anyone who saw him or was in the area that night is asked to call police investigator Rob Hodge at 763-531-1018, or the Crystal police tip line at 763-531-1020.
